The prefecture was the final destination of the 53rd stage of the passage of the flame, after having passed through Le Malesherbois, Sully-sur-Loire, Montargis, Neuville-aux-Bois, Gien and Meung-sur-Loire.

At around 6:50 p.m., it began its journey at Léon Chenault Park, on the south side of the Loire river, before going up on the north side via the George V bridge. It then continued its course along the quays of the Loire, then passed in front of emblematic places of the city, such as the Hotel Groslot, the Sainte-Croix Cathedral or the Place du Martroi. It was around 7:20 p.m., on the Esplanade du Souvenir Français, when it finished its race. The ceremony of lighting the cauldron by Mona Francis concluded the festivities.
